We have felt very fortunate that in almost 5 years of having kids, we hadn't had a trip to the ER. Unfortunately, our streak came to an end.
Friday night, as Logan was getting ready to brush his teeth, he stepped off his stool (why, I don't know, he was supposed to be at the sink brushing!). He had brought a toy truck into the bathroom with him and he stepped on it, slipped, and fell backward right into the edge of the door. Crying, he held his hand to the back of his head. When he discovered he was bleeding, he cried to me, "Mommy, my head is broken!" Fortunately, the wound did not actually bleed very much which I was grateful for, especially with everything I've heard about how much head wounds bleed. But, it did split the skin open pretty wide for such a little wound so Sean took him to the ER where they watched Toy Story on Sean's phone in the waiting room for an hour and watched all the high school kids come in with all of their end-of-the-year party calamities. Finally, they got to go back. The Dr. put some Novocain on the wound, then gave him an option to get shots for more pain killer before they put in the staples. Sean asked Logan if he could be tough and Logan said yes, so they opted out of the shots and just went straight for the staples. What a brave little guy!! He'll sport those staples for 10 days or so, then we can get them taken out.
